Prairie and native gardners sought

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking volunteers to tend native demonstration gardens at Volo Bog State Natural Area in Ingleside and at Moraine Hills State Park & McHenry Dam in McHenry beginning with spring clean up in March. New plants are added each year. Other duties involve hand-pulling weeds throughout the growing season and collecting seeds in fall. The growing season is mid-March to mid-November. New gardeners are asked to attend the kickoff meeting from 9:30 a.m. to noon March 21 at Volo Bog State Natural Area. Apply and register at dnr.volobog@illinois.gov or (815) 344-1294.
