Hear stories of civil rights on Feb. 12

Glencoe's nationally acclaimed Writers Theatre presents the one-woman show "The MLK Project: The Fight for Civil Rights" at Vernon Area Public Library, 300 Olde Half Day Road, Lincolnshire, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12. There is no admission charge, but registration is required. The multimedia performance weaves interviews, poetry, hip-hop and history to tell the stories of celebrated and unsung Chicago-based civil rights activists. The stories are brought to life by Angela Alise, who has appeared on stage at several Chicago-area theaters including the Goodman and Victory Gardens. The program is 45 minutes followed by a question-and-answer session. It is suitable for students as young as fifth grade. Visit https://calendar.vapld.info/ or call (224) 543-1486 for more.
