Fire leaves Vernon Hills apartment uninhabitable; no injuries reported

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of an early morning fire Sunday that left a Vernon Hills apartment uninhabitable.

No injuries were reported in connection with the blaze, which broke out about 5:15 a.m. in a second floor apartment of a building on the 0-100 block of Commonwealth Court, according to the Countryside Fire Protection District.

District fire crews and police arrived to find residents being evacuated from the building. Crews were able to apply water to the fire, keeping it from spreading to other units. The apartment were the fire occurred was left uninhabitable, but no other units were affected, officials said.

The Libertyville, Mundelein, Lake Forest and Lincolnshire fire departments assisted the Countryside Fire Protection District, authorities said.
