How to help spread holiday cheer in Mount Prospect

Mount Prospect's Human Services Department is seeking donations to help spread some holiday cheer to those in need through its Holiday Assistance Program.

Donations of food items can be brought to the Human Services Department on the second floor of village hall, 50 S. Emerson St., by Friday, Dec. 14. Department social workers or case workers meet with families to determine their eligibility for the program.

The items that are most needed include: canned fruit/fruit cups; instant mashed potatoes; canned beef stew, chicken and dumplings; crackers; canned meats, spam, etc.; jam and jelly; canned ravioli and spaghetti; gluten-free items; cereal; sugar-free items; and Hamburger Helper.

Please do not donate cans larger than 32 ounces. or packages larger than 5 pounds.
