Vernon Hills will lose another administrator with the departure Friday of Joe Carey, assistant village manager/director of community development.

Carey, who previously had served three years in the same post in Elk Grove Village, was hired in March 2014 from among 71 applicants. He's leaving to take the same position in Carol Stream.

Carey replaced John Kalmar, who had been promoted to village manager. Kalmar earlier this year was asked to resign for unspecified reasons and eventually replaced by former police Chief Mark Fleischhauer.

Vernon Hills has had a tumultuous year in terms of staff with the departure of Kalmar and the entire three-member finance department, including former director Nikki Larson.
