Former St. Charles East teacher sentenced on child porn charges

A former St. Charles East High School teacher, once given the key to St. Charles and nominated by the Kane County Regional Office of Education as Educator of the Year, has been sentenced on child pornography charges.

Gregory Burgener, 65, of the 400 block of West Fremont Street in Elmhurst, was sentenced Friday to four days in DuPage County jail and 30 months of sex offender probation and was ordered to pay $2,527 in fines.

Burgener, who was free on $150,000 bail, pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography on Aug. 6

He was charged on May 16, 2017, following an investigation by Elmhurst police.

As a condition of his probation, Burgener is only allowed to use the internet for employment purposes and must submit his electronics for testing at the direction of his probation officer.
