Grant defeats Carrier in 42nd House District

DuPage County Board member Amy Grant sailed to victory in her bid to represent the 42nd Illinois House District.

With all 121 precincts reporting, the Wheaton Republican captured 25,602 votes to become a freshman in the House and replace incumbent Jeanne Ives, who vacated the seat to run against Bruce Rauner for the Republican nomination for governor. Grant's opponent, Carol Stream Democrat Kathleen Carrier, trailed with 22,839 votes.

During her campaign, Grant, 62, voiced opposition to a graduated income tax and called for property tax relief. Grant also dispelled speculation that she would step aside for Ives to take her seat back.
