Cullerton edges Lewis for second term in Illinois Senate

Democrat Tom Cullerton of Villa Park won another term in Illinois Senate District 23 Tuesday, defeating Republican challenger Seth Lewis of Bartlett.

Unofficial totals from DuPage and Cook counties show Cullerton with 37,453 votes and Lewis with 31,373 with 204 of 208 precincts reporting.

A former Villa Park village president and trustee, Cullerton campaigned in favor of term limits and creation of an independent commission to update legislative maps. A state Senator since 2013, he had voted to cut his own pay and to ban politicians from taking multiple taxpayer-funded pensions.

Lewis is an insurance agent from Bartlett who said decreasing taxes across the board would attract more business and create more jobs and investment opportunities.
