Pedestrian hit, killed by vehicle in Algonquin

A 53-year-old Lake in the Hills man died after he was struck by a vehicle in Algonquin, authorities said.

The man was hit at 6:12 p.m. Tuesday while crossing West Algonquin Road at Crystal Lake Road, according to a news release from Algonquin police. He initially was taken to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital. A report from the Cook County medical examiner's office indicated David G. Popovich died Wednesday afternoon at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

The driver of the vehicle, a 50-year-old Algonquin woman, was not injured.

West Algonquin Road was closed to traffic for more than three hours Tuesday night after the crash, police said. Algonquin police and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team are investigating.
