Officials: Two women injured in crash near Wauconda

A crash Saturday near Wauconda sent two women to the hospital, officials said.

Crews were called to Route 59 and Anderson Road around 11:50 a.m. for a crash involving a small Nissan SUV and a Hyundai sedan, according to Battalion Chief Kevin Pyne of the Wauconda Fire District. Both vehicles were heavily damaged, he said, and one woman had to be extricated from her vehicle.

Nichole Hennigan, 21, was driving the sedan east on Anderson Road when she ran a stop sign and struck the SUV driven by a 59-year-old woman headed north, according to Sgt. Christopher Covelli of the Lake County sheriff's office, which is investigating the crash. Both women were the only occupants in their cars, Covelli said.

Both women were taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with injuries that are not life-threatening, Pyne said.

Hennigan was cited for disobeying a stop sign and is due in court next month, Covelli said.
