Finding the perfect pumpkin at Cosley Zoo

There's no real secret to picking a practically perfect pumpkin from among the thousands spread across the grounds during Cosley Zoo's Pumpkin Fest in Wheaton.

Some people like big ones. Some people like small ones.

Some people like theirs short and squat. Some like theirs long and lean.

Some like to paint them. Some like to carve them. Some just like to leave them outside and wait for the squirrels to arrive.

There's no real secret, but if you look hard enough at all the zoo's offerings, you'll almost always find one that's just right.

Here's something even better: when you've completed your search, there's still more to do, what with children's rides, a straw pyramid and, yes, all those zoo animals to watch and learn about.

The zoo at 1356 N. Gary Ave. is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through the end of the month. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and free for kids, Wheaton Park District residents and zoo members.
