No vote yet on tentative East Aurora 131 contract

A tentative contract agreement has been reached for teachers and other workers in East Aurora District 131, but a ratification vote has not yet been scheduled.

Amy Excell, spokeswoman for the workers' union, said the contract has to be presented to the union's full negotiating team, which will then submit it to its membership.

East Aurora Council, Local 604, American Federation of Teachers, represents the district's roughly 1,000 certified personnel, support workers and office staff.

The tentative agreement was announced Thursday night. Both sides agreed not to release details until after the union and the school board vote on it.

Negotiations had stalled in August, and the school board declared a formal impasse. Both sides then had to post their offers on the website of the state education labor relations board.

On Sept. 24, the union gave a 10-day notice of intent to strike.

Major sticking points were the union's desire to have the contract set limits on how large classes could be, and on the salary scales for support and office workers.
