Mundelein Arts Festival continues Sunday

Art fans had plenty to choose from Saturday at the first day of the eighth annual Mundelein Arts Festival in Kracklauer Park just west of Route 45 near Hawley Street.

Gray skies didn't deter hundreds of visitors from finding ample color in selections showcasing the talent of 45 artists. Industrial art, paintings in a variety of techniques and materials, photography, earthenware, pottery, jewelry and stained glass were among the multimedia offerings.

The affordably priced Kids Only Secret Shopping Tent is a new feature this year.

The juried art festival event, sponsored by Mundelein Community Connection and the Mundelein Park District, provides $1,000 scholarships to Mundelein and Carmel Catholic high schools. The Kirk Players community theater group also provides a $500 emerging artist award.

"It's really geared to promoting the community and arts in the community and of course, the scholarships to the kids," said Christa Lawrence, marketing manager for the park district."

The arts festival continues from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
