Schaumburg's engineering and public works director retiring

David Lawry, Schaumburg's director of engineering & public works, will retire Friday after more than four years in the post.

Hired by the village in April 2014, Lawry previously worked as director of municipal services for Chastain & Associates, LLC. He also worked for Wauconda, Elgin, the Illinois Department of Transportation and Sargent and Lundy Consultant Engineers.

During his time in Schaumburg, Lawry was responsible for the management of village-owned infrastructure systems, village-owned facilities and equipment, and public improvement programs.

He helped implement the pavement management program to assess the village's roadways, allocated additional funding for the street repair program and introduced a proactive pothole repair program. The village's new refuse and recycling carts were introduced under Lawry's tenure, as well as the implementation of a performance contract for the village's LED streetlights, in which more than 5,000 lights were installed in the village.

Lawry also oversaw several operation and management studies to enhance efficiency and the reintroduced the annual public works open house that occurs in May every year.

"I want to thank Dave for his leadership and service to the Schaumburg community these past four years," Village Manager Brian Townsend said in an announcement of Lawry's retirement. "We wish him all the very best in his retirement."

Engineering & Public Works Assistant Director Mike Hall will serve as interim director.
