Illinois Impact earns state championship, sets tryout dates

The 18u Illinois Impact Fastpitch Softball team was recently named state champions at the NSA Illinois State Tournament in Rockford.

The team, with a tournament record of 5-0, won the championship game 8-5 over Illiana Dream Seams. Illinois Impact's total tournament run differential was 50-7.

"This team can hit," said Head Coach Kent Szarabajka, founder of the competitive college exposure program. "The girls have been working hard and they are putting it all together on the field," he added.

The Illinois Impact has set its tryout dates for the upcoming season.

The program expects to have multiple teams at the 14u, 16u, and 18u levels. Illinois Impact is an A-level, college exposure program that works out at Players Edge Baseball & Softball Academy in Mundelein and attracts players from high schools in Lake, Cook and McHenry counties.

Tryouts are coming up, beginning Aug. 4 at Trinity International University, behind the Meyer Sports Complex on the campus, 2065 Half Day Road, Bannockburn and Players Edge Baseball & Softball Academy, 1160 Allanson Road, Mundelein.

In case of inclement weather, tryouts will be held at Players Edge. Check out the team website at illinoisimpact.com for details and registration.

Tryout times are:

• 14u - 9 to 10:45 a.m. Aug. 4, at Trinity University; 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 5, Trinity University; 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Players Edge; 9 to 10:15 a.m. Aug. 11, at Trinity University; and 11 a.m. Aug. 12 at Trinity University.

• 16u - 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Aug. 4, at Trinity University; 1:15 to 2:45 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, Trinity University; 6:15 to 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Players Edge; 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Aug. 11, Trinity University; and 11 a.m. Aug. 12 at Trinity University.

• 18u - 1-2:45 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4 at Trinity University; 3-4:30 Sunday, Aug. 5, Trinity University; 8-9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Players Edge, noon to 1:15 p.m. Aug. 11 at Trinity University and 11 a.m. Aug. 12 at Trinity University.
