Glen Ellyn man charged with threats at Glenbard West
A 20-year-old Glen Ellyn man has been charged with disorderly conduct for posting threatening messages directed at Glenbard West High School.
Timothy O'Dea, of the 800 block of Glen Oak Avenue, is free on $30,000 bail after being charged Thursday.
Prosecutors say O'Dea, at 9 p.m. on March 18, "knowingly transmitted a threat of violence, death or bodily harm at Glenbard West High School … directed at persons at a school, school function, or school event, whether or not school is in session."
School employees found the messages the next morning and called police.
"My office takes any threat made against a school extremely seriously and anyone found guilty of making any threat directed at a school will be held accountable," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a written statement.
Court records show O'Dea was cited at 9:20 p.m. May 20 for being in Glen Ellyn's Hidden Lake Forest Preserve after hours.
His next court appearance is scheduled for July 5, in front of Judge John Kinsella.
