Fire damages Wheaton office building

A fire caused extensive damaged to an office building Saturday evening in Wheaton, according to city officials.

Wheaton firefighters were called to a structure fire at 1530 N. Main St. around 8 p.m., according to a release from the city of Wheaton. When they arrived, they found heavy smoke billowing from the attic of the one-story office building,

Officials said an extensive portion of the attic was on fire and it took firefighters about an hour to get under control. No one was in the building at the time of the fire, according to the release.

Wheaton fire and police investigators, along with DuPage County Fire Investigation Taskforce, are looking into the cause of the fire. While the exact cause of the fire is undetermined, officials believe the cause was not suspicious.

No damage estimate was available. The Wheaton building department was called to the scene, and the building was posted unsafe for occupancy and turned back over to the property owner.
