Combining Lake County churches to be renamed 'Our Lady of the Lakes'

Two Catholic churches in Lake County are uniting to form Our Lady of the Lakes Parish as part of a reorganization by the Archdiocese of Chicago.

St. Bede Parish in Ingleside and St. Peter Parish in Antioch will be retained as active worship sites of the new church, according to the archdiocese. The new parish name was chosen by congregation members and announced during Mass this weekend.

The merger was announced in January as part of an ongoing Renew My Church initiative covering all archdiocesan parishes and schools. Catholic churches in Chicago, Winnetka, Northfield, Elmwood park and River Grove are undergoing similar changes.

"The new parish names help mark new beginnings for these Catholic communities," the Rev. Jason Malave, Cardinal Blase J. Cupich's liaison for Renew My Church, said in a statement. "Throughout history, when God bestows a new name on someone, it is always as part of a new mission."

The two sites at Our Lady of the Lakes will keep the St. Bede and St. Peter names, according to the archdiocese.
