Retired suburban priest dies

A retired Catholic priest who served parishes in Wauconda, Lake Zurich and other Chicago-area communities has died.

The Rev. Ron Gollatz, 72, died Tuesday at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood after a five-year battle with heart issues.

A Chicago native, Gollatz was ordained as a priest in 1972 and served the Archdiocese of Chicago for 46 years. He helped lead or led congregations in Park Ridge, Elmwood Park, Chicago, Morton Grove, Mount Prospect, Grayslake and Lake Zurich. His final assignment was at Transfiguration Church in Wauconda, where he served from 2006 to 2016.

Visitation is scheduled for 1 to 9 p.m. Monday at Transfiguration Catholic Church.

A second visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, followed by a funeral Mass.

Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in River Grove.
