Naperville fire wrecks at least one apartment

A Friday afternoon fire in Naperville left at least one apartment uninhabitable, officials said.

Deputy Fire Chief Andrew Dina said crews responding to a 911 call arrived at 12:34 p.m. to find "a significant amount" of heavy fire and smoke coming from the roof of the building on the 1300 block of East Chicago Avenue.

Dina said all residents in the building at the time of the fire evacuated calmly. No one was injured. Respondiing crews had the fire extinguished within 30 minutes.

At least one third floor apartment suffered smoke and water damage and will be uninhabitable for an undetermined length of time.

The cause of the fire

was determined to be accidental by the Naperville Fire Investigation Team.
