Arlington Heights artist appears on CBS Sunday Morning

An Arlington Heights artist got some rays of exposure this week - albeit for a brief moment - on national TV.

CBS Sunday Morning, the venerable arts and culture magazine program, used digital artist Mike Stone's "Fiesta Del Sol" - an image of a sun and its rays - at the conclusion of a Dec. 3 segment on ballet dancer Carmen de Lavallade.

The TV show's logo is that of a sun, and various similar images from artists are interspersed through the weekly broadcast.

Stone, a regular viewer of the program, submitted five sun images he created on his computer. CBS animated his artwork, making it appear as if the sun was dancing with its rays.

"I was really happy they did because it was perfect with the story," Stone said.

Stone, an electronic support technician, has been doing digital art as a hobby for two decades. His work is on display through Dec. 30 at the Prairie Center for the Arts in Schaumburg. A reception is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17.
