No support for tobacco age change in Island Lake
A proposal to raise the legal age to 21 for buying or possessing cigarettes or other tobacco products in Island Lake received no support from village board members Thursday, officials said.
Mayor Charles Amrich favored the plan and put it on the board meeting agenda for discussion, but none of the trustees backed it.
Several suburbs, including Buffalo Grove, Vernon Hills and Lincolnshire, have increased the minimum age to buy cigarettes in town to 21, from 18. The Lake County Board raised the minimum age to 21 in unincorporated areas, too.
