Mt. Prospect senior council to hold picnic Tuesday

The Mount Prospect Senior Advisory Council will hold its annual indoor picnic on at noon on Tuesday at the village hall community center, 50 S. Emerson St. The picnic is open to all adults. Hot dogs, potato salad, lemonade, dessert and coffee will be served for only $2. Bingo will be played after lunch. Reservations are not necessary, so just stop by. Call (847) 870-5680.

Blood test: The village's annual blood test for residents, sponsored by the human services department, will take place from 7 to 10 a.m. Sept. 12 in the village hall community center, 50 S Emerson St. in Mount Prospect.

The blood test will consist of a lipid panel, chemistry profile and a complete blood count for $30 for all three tests. For men, a prostate cancer screening blood test will also be offered at $20.  Payment will be accepted at the time of the test. Appointments for the blood test must be made in advance by calling (877)-RES-INFO or (877) 737-4636.

Test results will be sent directly to your home. If you prefer, you may schedule an appointment with the village nurse to review your test results; call (847) 870-5680.

Free messages: Prospect Heights city hall will post messages on its marquee for charitable and civic groups for free. Messages are handled on a first-come, first-served basis, so don't delay. Call Judy at city hall (847) 398-6070 ext. 800 or Edlyn at ext. 200.

Sing and stop smoking: Vocal coaching and freedom from smoking are among the courses offered this fall by the Alliance for Lifelong Learning at Oakton Community College.

Sing, Sing, Sing: Creative Vocal Coaching offers tips and techniques to create your own unique vocal style. Eight-session course meets at Oakton's Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road, starting Aug. 19 with instructor Eileen Berman, (847) 674-0035. Course fee is $180.

Quit Smoking is taught by a tobacco and substance abuse prevention specialist from the Cook County Department of Public Health. Four-week class meets 6 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday, starting Aug. 19, at Oakton's Des Plaines campus. Course fee is $50.
