Seat belt campaign all buckled up

The Mount Prospect police issued 1,408 tickets during its Click-It-Or-Ticket campaign last month.

Throughout May, officers focused on drivers who did not wear seat belts.

Police were at major intersections, watching for violators, police said.

Mount Prospect Culver's co-owner Chuck Martin donated certificates for free ice cream as a reward for younger drivers who were observed wearing seat belts.

Last week, officers positioned themselves at the exits of Prospect High School and rewarded drivers and passengers, who were in compliance with seat belts laws.

More than 800 free ice cream certificates were handed out.

This program was timed to coincide with Prospect High School's senior prom weekend to increase seat belt use by prom goers.

The Click-It-Or-Ticket campaigns are designed to reinforce public awareness of and compliance with occupant restraint laws, police said.

Don't forget: The Prospect Heights Library will be closed on Sundays for the summer through Aug. 31.

The library will also be closed July 4, in observance of

Independence Day.
