Seniors invite all to celebrate St. Patrick's Day at luncheon

The Mount Prospect Senior Advisory Council Annual St. Patrick's Day Party will be held on March 16 at Manzo's Banquets, 1571 S. Elmhurst Road in Des Plaines.

This party is open to all adults.

There will be a cash bar from noon to 1 p.m. and the luncheon is at 1 p.m.

The cost is $20 per person, which must be paid in advance and includes entertainment and door prizes.

Reservations must be made in person at the village of Mount Prospect Human Services Department, 50 S. Emerson St., by Tuesday.

Police vs. firefighters: On March 15, Mount Prospect police officers and other local police departments will take on firefighters from Lake County in the annual "Guns & Hoses" Charity Hockey Game.

This year's contest will start with the puck dropping at 2:45 p.m. and will pit "Skatin' Bacon" against the Lake County Firefighters.

The charity hockey game will be played at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont before the Chicago Wolves game and in conjunction with their Crime and Fire Prevention Night.

Police officers and firefighters are playing to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and their goal this year is to raise over $10,000 for this charity.

First movie sale: Friends of the Prospect Heights Library will be hosting their first movie sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 15 in the Lusk Room of the library, 12 Elm St.

There will be hundreds of VHS tapes to choose from including movie classics, children's, comedy, educational, documentary, mystery, action and adventure shows.

All tapes will sell for $1 each or six for $5.

All proceeds will go to helping the library with its needs that are not covered by the annual budget.

Chess for all ages: The Mount Prospect Library welcomes chess players of all skill levels -- from novice to master -- to an afternoon of open competition, 2-4 p.m., Sunday at the library, 10 S Emerson St.

The library will provide chessboards and refreshments. An adult must accompany children under age 9.
