Post to host bingo game to benefit our veterans

Want a chance at some big bingo bucks?

Tickets are going fast for American Legion Post 76's third annual Bingo Like Extravaganza, which will be at 1 p.m. Oct. 21 at the legion hall, 570 S. Gary Ave., Carol Stream.

If you want to get in on the gaming excitement, you need to purchase your ticket soon by contacting Karen Galas at (630) 682-0076.

Tickets are $50 per person and include a 12-face card for each game. Players' odds of winning the $500 prize per each of the 15 games is fairly good with only 200 tickets being sold for this event.

"We've had people come from central Illinois and Wisconsin," said Deldon Miller, former post commander.

He noted this is the only Bingo Like Extravaganza in the area, aside from the casinos. The event also includes pull tabs with the possibility of up to $999 per winner per game.

The post's women's auxiliary will begin serving lunch at 11 a.m. for anyone who would enjoy a burger or hot dog with trimmings or other snacks before the event. And Miller said the prices are very reasonable. There will be a cash bar, too.

Post members and the women's auxiliary work year-round for the benefit of others, with proceeds from this particular fundraiser earmarked for the veterans and veterans' projects.

"The community has strongly supported our veterans," Miller said. "We especially get a lot of support from Wheaton and Carol Stream."

On Oct. 20, the evening before Bingo Like Extravaganza, Post 76 members will put on their aprons for another steak fry from 5 to 8 p.m.

Dinners with a 12- to 14-ounce Angus rib-eye or T-bone steak, plus baked potato, a complete salad bar, roll, coffee and dessert, are $13 per person.

"The steaks will be cooked on the grill to your liking," said Miller, an active member of the post for more than 25 years.

Speaking from my own steak fry dining experience, it's a great meal at a great price. Of course, children are welcome, too. Hamburger plates will be available for only $3 per child.

Be sure to visit the post for either or both of these events. Rest assured that your support of these fundraisers will help many.
