Fridays on the Green concerts return to Mount Prospect this week

Mount Prospect village hall's front porch will host a variety of musical acts beginning today as part of the town's Fridays on the Green concert series.

The shows will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. starting June 2 and continuing through Sept. 8 on Centennial Green, 50 S. Emerson St.

Kicking off the series is Jay Goeppner and the Backdated Band, an international Beatles cover band with a '60s and '70s rock repertoire.

Ken Dix and the Friday Night Lawn Jockeys take the stage on June 16, with the local band offering a mix of current hits and classic rock.

After a brief hiatus, the schedule picks up on July 14, with Wall of Denial, a Stevie Ray Vaughan tribute band.

The Grammy-nominated group Liquid Soul will serve up their fusion of jazz, hip-hop and funk on Aug. 4.

The finale on Sept. 8 will feature The Dill Spears playing a mix of rock, pop, alternative, modern and oldies songs.

Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Free parking is available at the Emerson Street Parking Deck, between the village hall and the Mount Prospect Public Library. Bathrooms will be available inside the village hall.

Sponsors include Busse Automotive, B&E Accounting, Amethyst Skye Salon, the Law Office of David J.E. Roe and the River Trails Park District.
