Folk-rock with Dan Tedesco

St. Charles native Dan Tedesco brings folk-rock to Arlington Heights as the now-Iowa-resident plays a homecoming show at Hey Nonny this weekend. WIIL Rock Fest

Hard-rock band Shinedown visits Grayslake this weekend as the WIIL Rock Fest takes over the Lake County Fairgrounds Saturday to celebrate 30 years of rock radio from WIIL-FM. The fest lineup also includes Falling In Reverse, Jelly Roll, Jackyl, Saliva, Royal Bliss, Through Fire and Lilith Czar on the main stage, as well as The Heroes Lie, Ron's Supper Club, Lines Of Loyalty, Lake Effect, Saint Tragedy, Dayrollers, Poor Pauly and Bright-Eyed & Blind on the WIIL Homegrown Stage.

The blues in Bolingbrook

The Bolingbrook Blues Showcase takes over the Roger C. Claar Performing Arts Center for a day outdoors with the blues as the Chicago Blues Challenge, sanctioned by the Windy City Blues Society, gives performers the opportunity to compete for a slot in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Saturday's performance features Darren Jay and The Delta Souls, Downtown Charlie Brown and Binford, Hendricks and Cash, Kevin Purcell and The Nightburners, Lil Harvey and The Chitown Blues Band, A Patch of Blues, The Sean McKee Band, Tip Jar Stars, and Win Noll and The Rockin' Souls. The showcase will be headlined by local smokin' blues band The Instinct, who attended the IBC in 2018 and 2019. Food and drinks will be available for purchase, but coolers are allowed at the full-day event.

Keith Urban in Tinley Park

Australian country music star Keith Urban pays a visit to the Chicago area with his "The Speed of Now" world tour, coming to the outdoor Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre this weekend. Ingrid Andress and Tyler Hubbard will join him for the tour stop.

Back together

For one night only, the Chicago and suburban pop-punksters in Allister are getting the gang back together for a special performance at Bottom Lounge featuring their 2002 album "Last Stop Suburbia" in its entirety. But wait, there's more! August Premier is also reuniting for the evening, along with performances by Tony Lovato (of Mest) and Eternal Boy for the 17+ show.

Aaron Kelly release

Oswego roots and folk singer Aaron Kelly puts the whole band on stage at The Venue to celebrate the release of the new EP, "Song's Still Sing," which, while technically out this weekend, is available on Bandcamp now. Plainfield singer-songwriter Demi Clara joins the band on the Aurora stage with her soulful brew of lush vocals atop haunting melodies.

Joan Osborne in Evanston

With more than 10 studio albums in circulation - including "One of Us," the soulful and questioning breakout song that first introduced Joan Osborne to national audiences - the singer spent part of the pandemic lockdowns sifting through the pieces of the past that fell through the cracks. "Radio Waves," released earlier this year, is the culmination of that process, a hand-selected collection of Osborne's favorite in-studio radio recordings, none of which have ever been compiled on an album. She brings her favorites to Evanston for a show of silky vocals and deep musical interpretations of life and artistry.

Gaslight's return

After some time with his solo project, Brian Fallon is teaming up once again with The Gaslight Anthem for the band's first headlining tour in four years. The band - equal parts punk, rock and Springsteen at his most soulful - also has new music in the works, which means lucky fans might get a taste at the Riv show. Pennsylvania rock band Tigers Jaw joins Gaslight for this leg of the tour.
