Little Bear Ribfest a lip-smacking, toe-tapping good time

Vernon Hills Park District's 11th Annual Little Bear Ribfest will be held from 6-11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, and 4-11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, in Century Park Arboretum, 1001 Lakeview Parkway, Vernon Hills.

There is a $5 entry fee payable at the gate; ages 5 and younger are free. Proceeds support the park district's Family Scholarship Fund.

Numerous restaurants will be selling ribs and side dishes at a nominal cost, including Brothers' BBQ, Smokin BBQ, BBQ'd Productions Bar & Grill, and City Barbeque.

The Mundelein/Vernon Hills Rotary Club will be roasting corn, and Bo-Bo's restaurant will be offering ice cream and other desserts.

There will also be plenty of beverages for sale, including a variety of beer, bourbon, wine and soda. Alcoholic beverage tickets can be purchased with cash or credit/debit cards until 10:30 p.m. each evening. A wristband is required before purchasing tickets.

The entertainment will showcase award-winning blues artists. Friday night's entertainment begins with The Chicago Experience at 7 p.m., followed by a fireworks show at 8:30 p.m. and Jake & Elwood at 9 p.m.

Saturday's lineup includes Funky Mojo Daddy performing at 5 p.m., followed by Laura Rain and the Caesars at 7 p.m., and Shawn Holt & The Teardrops at 9 p.m.

Free parking is available at the Hawthorn Mall, 122 Hawthorn Center, Vernon Hills. Do not park in business parking lots adjacent to the event site. There will be limited parking available at the south corner of Lakeview Parkway and Hawthorn Parkway.

Bring lawn chairs and relax by the lake as you listen to the best blues music around and enjoy delicious ribs and cold beverages.
