Sound check: Celebrate 50 years of 'Aqualung' at Arcada

'Aqualung' anniversary

Martin Barre, guitarist for the legendary British rock band Jethro Tull, is bringing his 50th anniversary celebration of the group's best-selling 1971 “Aqualung” album to the Arcada Theatre Thursday, Jan. 20. The worldwide touring show - which features the full album, plus other Tull classics and a few favorite Barre originals - also brings together original Tull drummer Clive Bunker, along with Dan Crisp, Alan Thomson and Darby Todd.

Bluegrass, gypsy jazz in Aurora

McHenry-based Miles Over Mountains showcases its funky modern brand of progressive bluegrass to the Southwest suburbs when it takes the stage at The Venue in Aurora. Charismatic rhythmic rocker Pete Jive opens the set Friday, Jan. 14. The next night, revel in the upbeat gypsy jazz of Chanson Du Chat as the lively foursome (plus special guest Steve Gaugel on sax) brings the heat to the wintry weekend.

Camp Broadcast concert

Hoffman Estates High School grad and nationally syndicated radio host Sam Alex returns to the suburbs this weekend for an acoustic concert to raise funds for Camp Broadcast, a training session for aspiring student journalists and broadcasters set for June 13-16 in Skokie. The concert, a songwriter circle-style presentation featuring musicians Lanie Gardner, Adam Hambrick, Jake Hoot and Ray Fulcher on stage sharing songs and swapping stories, will raise funds to support the camp, which Alex founded and developed. He and television personality Andrea Boehlke will host the all-ages event at Pinstripes in South Barrington Sunday afternoon.
