Endorsements: Cecille, Hashmi and Thon for Streamwood village trustee

This endorsement is a consensus opinion of the Daily Herald Editorial Board.

Five candidates are running for three trustee positions on the Streamwood village board.

Incumbents James Cecille and Mary Thon are seeking reelection. They are joined on the ballot by Nazneen Hashmi, Harshadkumar Chhatulal Shah and former trustee Larry Rybicki.

Cecille was first elected to the board in 1987 and says this will be his last term if he's elected in April. He has proposed a plan to help residents dealing with tree roots in their sewer lines on easements.

Thon, first elected to the board in 2011, has a background in education and would like to see the village work on producing events that will bring people together.

Hashmi, a longtime village resident, serves on several village commissions and has a background in auditing. She wants the village to continue investing in updates to its emergency response infrastructure and streets to reduce congestion.

Rybicki served on the board from 1999-2007. He would like to see the village work to market potential retail and commercial areas and help retain and grow existing business.

Shah is currently a member of the planning and zoning board and has a background in banking. Economic development and job opportunities are the most serious issues facing the village, he says.

All five candidates would make fine additions to the board. We think the best combination is the experience of Cecille and Thon along with fresh ideas and financial background that Hashmi brings to the race. They are endorsed.
