Endorsement: Siddiqi for Glendale Heights village board District 2

Longtime Glendale Heights Trustee Sharon Sullivan's decision to not run again means District 2 voters will choose a new representative for the first time since 1999.

Two newcomers — Sufiyan Mohammed and Mohammad Asim Siddiqi — are seeking to replace Sullivan on the village board.

Mohammed, a technology analyst, said part of the reason he's running is to inspire other young people to become involved. If elected, he says he would look for ways to help restaurants, shops and other local businesses that have suffered during the pandemic. He also would like to see better-maintained roads and sidewalks.

Siddiqi, an IT consultant, has spent the last two years serving on the village's property enhancement committee. He said Glendale Heights should enact policies that attract more businesses to the town. He also says there are village streets that need to be resurfaced.

There will be a learning curve for whoever wins the election. But Siddiqi's involvement on a local committee has given him some experience with village politics. That experience gives him an edge. Siddiqi is endorsed.
