A legislative solution to carbon problem

It would be remiss of me not to thank the Daily Herald for its publication of several excellent editorials and opinion columns prior to the recent climate strikes and United Nations Climate Action Summit. You have enlightened your readership on the unfolding climate crisis, its impacts, and solutions. Thank you.

I was particularly encouraged by coverage of the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act (H.R. 763) introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives. This carbon-pricing solution puts a fee on carbon as close to the source of extraction as possible, and returns the fees collected monthly to each American household (children included) as a direct deposit or check. It is fair, bipartisan, good for people, good for the economy, revenue neutral, and is projected to reduce carbon emissions by at least 40% in the first 12 years.

Americans can spur action by calling or writing their federally-elected officials and asking them to support the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act.
