Opportunities await grads who are prepared

An open letter to the 2019 high school and college graduates:

As the academic years at high schools and colleges are coming to an end, I think about all the great opportunities that lie ahead for you.

The economy and job market are good, and there will be countless opportunities for you, make sure you have the degrees or certificates needed to move forward in your career.

Unemployment rates are at some of the lowest in history, however, many businesses are looking for candidates to possess degrees along with business and professional certificates, many of the very items we offer at the College of DuPage.

Businesses also are looking for leaders, not just those who manage or lead an organization, but some of the most needed leaders are individual contributors, leading by example, taking on challenges, stepping up to work on a tough project. If you can be one of those individual leaders, you will stand out and you will have advancement opportunities.

It is up to you to use your skills and credentials to create even more opportunities. Do so with the confidence that you built through your hard work. Know that because you have reached this point, even greater experiences are waiting for you just around the corner.
