Democratic field is monolith of the left

Of the two dozen candidates on the Democratic side, seven have emerged as the top contenders for their party's nomination, each one representing a facet of the left's identity.

They are:

Pete Buttigieg, the Articulate Leftist. Pleasant and modest, Buttigieg is uniquely able to explain the left's ruinous ideology in innocuous, middlebrow terms. Soldier, scholar, polemicist, and homosexual, Buttigieg is a Renaissance man, though he is mayor of a decidedly medieval hamlet, South Bend, Indiana.

Cory Booker, the Arrogant Leftist. As narcissistic as Buttigieg is self-effacing, Booker must wonder if the presidency is a step down from the lofty heroism of Spartacus, with whom he claims comradeship.

Beto O'Rourke, the Adolescent Leftist. Gangly and goofy, O'Rourke lost a race to Ted Cruz, despite millions of dollars in campaign cash, and a souped-up skateboard.

Elizabeth Warren, the Academic Leftist. Warren impresses with her grasp of policy, in the interludes between her audience's naps, which are induced by her lack of charisma.

Kamala Harris, the Accidental Leftist. Harris basked, unsquinting, in the glare of the Kavanaugh hearings.

Bernie Sanders, the Angry Leftist. Who can blame him, after what Hillary did in the last primary?

Joe Biden, the Attenuated Leftist. A perceived "moderate," Biden is hampered by his tardy and incomplete allegiance to progressivism. He isn't "woke." Joe is, well, sleepy. Prone to gaffes, Biden is obliged to recite the scroll-length creed of political correctness, even as his mind and fingers wander in opposite directions.

These seven munificent candidates, along with their obscured cohorts, form the monolith of the left.

I was mistaken. A monolith has no facets.
