Debate shows clear differences

I am writing this after watching the recent debate between 6th Congressional District candidates Republican incumbent Peter Roskam and Democrat Sean Casten.

There were many positions on which the candidates presented stark differences, but in this letter I am pointing out two of those differences.

Regarding abortion, Rep. Roskam has clearly stated he is pro-life. He believes in the viability of the fetus as a living human. Challenger Sean Casten compared an abortion with gall bladder surgery. Gall bladder surgery!? Even for those who believe that abortion should be an available choice, the cavalier position that aborting a fetus is the same as the removal of a gall bladder just shows how little consideration candidate Casten has for the difficult decision to take the step of ending a pregnancy. Radical.

Regarding taxes, Rep. Roskam has been a consistent voice for reducing the tax burden on the constituents of the 6th District. He worked hard to shape the recent tax plan, which has brought real relief to millions of average Americans. His opponent is another Democrat candidate who has never met a tax he did not like and wants to make government a greater part of our lives.

Is that what voters in the 6th District want? I don't believe so.

Sean Casten - extreme. Peter Roskam - a representative who places the needs of his constituents first. Just right.
