Lurie Children's Hospital seeks approval to open outpatient center in Schaumburg in 2025

A proposed Lurie Children's Hospital outpatient center in Schaumburg could be open by August 2025, replacing existing facilities in Huntley and on the Northwest Community Hospital campus in Arlington Heights.

Schaumburg trustees Tuesday will consider approval of the three-story, 75,000-square-foot building at 1994 N. Roselle Road. The plan already has been recommended by the village's zoning board of appeals.

In a letter outlining the project, Lurie officials cite a 150% increase over the past decade in patient visits to their satellite locations, which have limited access and extended wait lists.

The proposed Schaumburg facility represents a more than $60 million investment on an undeveloped 5.67-acre site at the northwest corner of Roselle Road and Hillcrest Boulevard, south of the Extended Stay America and Holiday Inn hotels on Roselle Road.

During its first year of operation, the outpatient center is anticipated to employ 85 people and receive 60,000 patient visits.

The center is planned to offer comprehensive pediatric specialty care services, including cardiology, neurology and urology, as well as orthopedic and pediatric surgeries. Other services would include therapeutic, rehabilitation and diagnostic and imaging services such as audiology, cardiac rehab and ultrasound.

The Lurie facility also would offer primary care and an Ambulatory Infusion Center (AIC). It will be the first pediatric-only infusion center outside of a hospital in the Chicago area.

The property is expected to include 270 parking spaces and a canopy over the drop-off area for patients.

Though the initial hours of operation are proposed to be 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, there's the potential to expand those hours and days.

The Schaumburg zoning board of appeals praised the project earlier this month and recommended it unanimously but for one absent member. No members of the public raised any questions or concerns at the panel's hearing.

Dan Zorrilla, senior director of design and construction for Lurie, said the health care company would end its leases at the Northwest Community Hospital campus and in Huntley when the new outpatient center is completed.
