Arlington Heights company to install more than 5,000 solar panels

An Arlington Heights-based machine tool manufacturer broke ground Friday on a green energy project that will install 5,040 solar panels on seven acres of the company's property.

JTEKT Toyoda Americas Corp., 316 W. University Drive, hosted a groundbreaking Friday afternoon with company executives and local dignitaries.

Officials say the solar field will help offset the company's annual total power consumption. The system will be able to output 2.3 million megawatt hours, which equates to nearly 2,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide offset and almost 2 million tons of coal offset per year.
