Uniqlo sets opening date at Woodfield

Global apparel retailer Uniqlo will open its first suburban store on Friday, Oct. 26, at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg.

The 9,500 square-foot store will be Uniqlo's second store in the greater Chicago area, following the opening of its store on North Michigan Avenue in the fall of 2015. The retailer will offer LifeWear for men, women and kids. LifeWear is the Uniqlo's commitment to creating clothing that meets the needs of daily lifestyles.

"We are looking forward to an exciting grand opening at Woodfield," said Uniqlo USA CEO Hiroshi Taki. "Since opening our flagship store on Michigan Avenue three years ago, we have enjoyed getting to know the Chicago community and understanding our customers' everyday needs. We are thrilled to extend our presence to Schaumburg, and introduce our superior service and essential products that will keep Chicagoans warm and comfortable as we approach the winter season."

The new store will carry the brand's cold-weather essentials made with materials such as ultra light down - warm, light jackets that pack neatly into a pouch - and Heattech, a thin layer of innerwear designed with heat-retaining properties. The store will also offer jeans made from authentic Japanese Kaihara denim, 100 percent cashmere sweaters for under $100, fleece and casual wear.

The retailer has more than 2,000 stores in 21 markets worldwide, including 49 stores in the U.S., including New York, Boston, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Denver and most recently, Hawaii. Since opening its first store in Hiroshima in 1984, Uniqlo has created apparel that comes from the Japanese values of simplicity and quality, the company said.
