6 things you need to know about Cook County's minimum wage and sick leave ordinances

• They apply to businesses with at least four employees. Federal, state and local government workers, and subsidized temporary youth or transitional employment programs are exempt.

• Employees must work at least two hours in any two-week period.

 

• Employers must post notices of the ordinances.

• Businesses that have Cook County Class 6b and 7b tax incentives must comply.

• Employees can file a complaint with the Cook County Commission on Human Rights, which can conduct interviews, request document and issue subpoenas.

• The commission may issue fines of $500 per day per offense, order payment of back wages. Appeals are to an administrative law judge or circuit court.
