• Wheeling High School's NJROTC program won the Area 2 Drill Competition, earning a spot at the National Drill Competition in Pensacola, Florida, for the first time in school history.
Theater productions:
• "Cry-Baby," fall musical
• "Rumors," spring play
What was new in 2021-22: Wheeling High School's NJROTC program continued to expand with the addition of a marksmanship range being built on-site. The 21-22 school year saw the de-trackng of freshmen level courses and the implementation of contextualized courses pairing physics and manufacturing and geometry and manufacturing.
What challenges did the Class of 2022 face as they returned to in-person school full time, and how did they overcome them:
The Class of 2022 faced the challenge of returning to in-person classes after being mostly remote for a year and a quarter. The emotional health and academic stamina of our students were greatly impacted. To help overcome these challenges, Wheeling High School focused heavily on Social-Emotional Learning and building strong, caring relationships with our students. We conducted weekly pro-active circles with our students to give them a chance to connect and rebuild a sense of community. Our athletics and activities went out of their way to give our students the high school experience they had missed as juniors.
Principal's reflections on the Class of 2022: The Class of 2022 is an outstanding group of students who demonstrate a strong sense of school spirit and pride in their school. If there were one word to describe this class, it would be leadership. The level of leadership demonstrated by so many students in this graduating class is absolutely amazing. The Class of 2022 will undoubtedly enter the world well-prepared to take on leadership roles in a variety of sectors and will make a huge contribution to our community.
