Local Libertyville DAR Chapter Presents Awards At Their Annual Dinner
On May 4, 2022 at the White Deer Run Golf Course in Vernon Hills, Libertyville based Ansel Brainerd Cook (ABC) Chapter, NSDAR held their annual meeting and awards dinner.
Throughout the State of Illinois, there are over 100 chapters. At the 126th Illinois State DAR Conference, held in Bloomington this past April, the Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter was presented with 29 certificates of awards for their outstanding service to the community.
The Chapter recognized 3 individuals to receive the DAR Community Service Award. The DAR Community Service Award is awarded to individuals or groups who have contributed to the community in an outstanding manner through cultural, educational, humanitarian, patriotic, historical, citizenship, environmental conservation efforts and by organizing or participating in community activities.
ABC was privileged to present the DAR Community Service Awards to: Lisa Fisher, who organized the Antioch Traveling Closet, Mike Moran 40 year chairman at the Village of Wheeling Police and Fire Commissioners and George Foster, Veteran owner of North Point Digital Productions, LLC.
The ABC Chapter was honored to also have two WWII Veterans and their families attend the dinner. Vic Erdelac who served in the United States Army Air Force as a Bomber and Jack W. Vollriede who served in the United States Navy as a Frogman. The audience was captivated as the Veterans and their families shared their stories with us.
The ABC Chapter was delighted to have Sharon Wick and Sarah Bazata from the Quilts of Valor Sewing Circle with us. The Quilt of Valor mission is to cover service members and Veteran's touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor. They presented each Veteran with a certificate and wrapped 4 beautiful one of a kind Quilts of Valor to the Veterans that attended the dinner. These quilts were presented to Vic Erdelac and Jack W. Vollriede who served in WWII, George Foster who served in Vietnam, and Jack B. Vollriede who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. As the Quilts were wrapped around each Veteran, they were thanked for their service, sacrifice and valor in serving our nation.
The ABC Chapter welcomed and swore in 2 new members, Donna Petras and Renee Peterson. They were each given a DAR swag bag and a rose.
The installations of officers were sworn in for either a one or two year term. The directors and chairwomen were also sworn in.
The Ansel Brainerd Chapter, NSDAR, is celebrating its 45th year. The chapter was organized in September 1977 in Libertyville by 17 members. The chapter has now grown to include more than 175 members. In 2021, the ABC chapter members logged in 7,705 volunteer hours in the communities in which they work and live.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. Its 190,000 plus members in approximately 3000 chapters worldwide, all have proven their lineage from patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War. The DAR is one of the most active service organizations. DAR members have committed to volunteer service having served more that 12.5 million hours in communities throughout the world.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is a lineage-based membership service organization for women who are directly descended from a person involved in the United States' efforts toward independence. Any woman 18 years or older regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership.
