Des Plaines Park District hiring lifeguards, and other summer positions

Every summer, The Des Plaines Park District looks to fill over 100 seasonal positions and this year is no different! The Park District Aquatics Department is actively seeking lifeguards, attendants and cashiers ages 15 and older. Lifeguards receive paid training and their certification is free. Mystic Waters lifeguards will start at an hourly wage of $18 per hour, Mystic Waters attendants and cashiers will be paid $15 per hour. At our other aquatic facilities, lifeguard rates begin at $15 per hour, attendants and cashiers are paid $14 per hour. Additional sign on perks are available for pre-certified applicants.

"We encourage people of all ages to apply for our summer jobs. Teens, college students, retirees, parents and teachers who have the summer off would be welcomed to apply," expressed Executive Director Don Miletic, about the hiring shortage. "Lifeguarding is a rewarding way to earn money, while giving back to their community."

Summer Aquatic facilities are directly connected to the amount of staff that we have to run them.

The Park District currently operates Mystic Waters Family Aquatic Center (2025 Miner St.), and two community pools- Iroquois Pool (2324 Maple St.) and Chippewa Pool (197 N. 8th Ave). Due to the lifeguard shortage, there is possibility of opening facilities for the season with shortened hours, or to be open less days per week.

"We are working to continue to provide services for our residents and surrounding neighbors," said Miletic. "These are options that allow us the opportunity to provide safe recreational facilities for our community."
