11th Congressional District candidate forum set for May 11

Republican candidates seeking to unseat Democratic U.S. Rep. Bill Foster in Illinois' 11th Congressional District will debate the issues facing the nation next week in Batavia.

The forum is set for 7 p.m. May 11 at Batavia's city hall, 100 N. Island Ave.

But you don't have to go to city hall to observe the forum. It will be broadcast live on Batavia's public access Channel 17 and livestreamed at facebook.com/BATV1017.

Afterward, it will be available on YouTube at youtube.com/user/BATV1017.

The forum is sponsored by League of Women Voters groups serving Downers Grove, Woodridge, Lisle, Elgin, Aurora, McHenry County, Naperville, central Kane County and other communities in the district. Some of the groups may post recordings on their social media pages, too.

Six Republicans are running for their party's nomination in the June 28 primary and the chance to face Foster, of Naperville, in the Nov. 8 general election: Mark Carroll of North Aurora, Jerry Evans of Warrenville, Susan L. Hathaway-Altman of the Geneva area, Andrea Heeg of the Geneva area, Catalina Lauf of Woodstock, and Cassandra Tanner Miller of Elgin.

All but Heeg and Lauf are scheduled to attend, an organizer said.

Foster is running unopposed for the Democratic nomination.

A League of Women Voters member will moderate the discussion. Questions will come from the public and are being collected by the individual groups.

You can submit a question at tinyurl.com/2p9hz6yp.

Redrawn for the 2022 election, the 11th District encompasses parts of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, Will, DeKalb and Boone counties.
