Learn how to can tomatoes Sept. 9 in St. Charles

A free canning seminar will be offered at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, at the St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. Sixth Ave., St. Charles.

All are invited to join Kathy Jankovic, former instructor of culinary arts at Geneva High School, during the seminar, which is titled "I Can! So Can You Can."

Participants will learn the art of canning, which will enable individuals to extend beyond the growing season the life of the healthy foods they grow or buy.

During the program, Jankovic will demonstrate the steps of canning and will answer questions from the audience. Hand-outs will be provided.

In addition, Jankovic will explain how canned produce can be used to create other healthy dishes, such as delicious sauces and salsas.
