National Night Out events planned across Fox Valley Aug. 3 and 7

Billed as "America's Night Out Against Crime," National Night Out encourages residents to lock their doors, turn on their porch lights and spend the evening getting to know their neighbors, police officers, firefighters and other city officials.

National Night Out events are held with more than 38 million people in 16,000-plus communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide.

Algonquin

On Tuesday, Aug. 3, join the Algonquin Police Department for National Night Out from 4 to 7 p.m. at Algonquin Area Public Library, 2600 Harnish Drive, Algonquin. National Night Out comes back to the Harnish Main Library! This annual community-building campaign promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, better places to live. No registration required. Aurora

Neighbors all over Aurora are coming together for the first time in two years to celebrate National Night Out 2021 on Tuesday, Aug. 3.

National Night Out culminates annually on the first Tuesday in August in an effort to enhance the relationship between neighbors, public safety officials and city officials while focusing on strengthening a true sense of community.

Aurora's National Night Out events are held in various neighborhoods throughout each of the city's ten wards. Each celebration encourages residents to come outside and spend the evening getting to know their neighbors, community partners, public safety, elected and city officials.

This year, the event will recognize the reopening of two community centers to the Grand Blvd. Center and the Aurora Township Youth Center- during their respective National Night Out events

The 2021 Aurora National Night Out neighborhood events are:

Campton Hills

The village of Campton Hills will host its annual National Night Out Event from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3.

Meet your local police officers and firefighters; Koda (Police K-9) demonstration; vehicle extrication demonstration; Superior Air Med Helicopter Fly-in; magic show; local business giveaways; and free hot dogs, chips, drinks, and cotton candy.

Begin your evening a little earlier with the "commUNITY Bike Ride" starting at Bell Graham School at 4 p.m. Ride with Campton Hills Police Chief and other officers to our National Night Out location on School Street, between Route 64 and La Fox Road.

This annual event promotes police and community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. This year, it's bigger than ever at Carpenter Park in Carpentersville! On Tuesday, Aug. 4, the Kane County sheriff's office invites residents to stop at the judicial center campus at Route 38 and Peck Road, St. Charles, from 6: 30 to 8:30 p.m. The free event will be filled with fun, music, free food, scavenger hunt, amusements, resources and more. Learn about the Kane County Sheriff's Office, the bomb unit, corrections response team, court security, honor guard, K-9 unit, Special Weapons and Tactics, and emergency management. Also on hand will be members of the Kane County Coroner, Kane County Division of Transporation's KaneComm, Kane County Farm Bureau, Kane County Health Department, and Mounted Rangers.

Lake in the Hills

The Lake in the Hills Police Department invites you to the annual National Night Out Community Cookout event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at Irv Floress Safety Education Center, 1109 Crystal Lake Road. This free event is open to the community.

Join in a police station tour, check out the LifeNet helicopter up close, watch a live K-9 demo presented by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office, visit with the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District, meet "PC" the Patrol Car Robot, see and touch various types of police and fire vehicles, try on a pair of fatal vision impairment goggles, try out the police simulation trailer with paint/training marking cartridges, visit with our tactical bike and traffic units, meet an evidence technician, and more. Free hot dogs, chips, and pop will be provided.

North Aurora

On Tuesday, Aug. 3, neighborhoods throughout North Aurora are will join communities across the nation for National Night Out (NNO) a crime and drug prevention event, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the North Aurora Police Department.

The focus of North Aurora's National Night Out is on bringing neighborhoods together, having fun, and being united against crime and disorder. Many neighborhoods throughout North Aurora will be hosting a variety of events such as block parties, cookouts, and other gatherings. There will be visits from police, including McGruff the Crime Dog, and the fire department. They will be showing off vehicles, taking pictures, and interacting with the residents and kids.

"After all of the challenges of the pandemic over the last year or so, we are excited to get back to community policing, and continue building relationships with our residents again," said Chief of Police David Fisher.

From 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, residents in neighborhoods throughout North Aurora and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.
