Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley receives $10,500 for Chromebooks

Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley has received a $10,500 grant from the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley to purchase Chromebooks for adult literacy students who want to learn English virtually.

Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley helps adults learn English by matching them with trained volunteer tutors one to one.

COVID-19 restrictions have prevented adult students from meeting with volunteer tutors in-person during most of the pandemic. Some are meeting for virtual lessons but many adult students lack electronic devices that are suitable for learning.

The grant removes a significant barrier that low-income adults face when seeking English lessons. The Chromebooks will be loaned to adult students who are enrolled in Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley's English as a Second Language Program for a 16-week period with renewal options.

The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley is a non-profit, tax-exempt, philanthropic organization that administers individual charitable funds from which grants and scholarships are distributed to benefit the citizens of the Greater Aurora Area, the TriCities and Kendall County, Illinois.

Founded in 1948, the Foundation provides a simple and powerful approach to charitable giving. Individuals, families, businesses, and organizations have the opportunity to custom design their own named funds that reflect their charitable goals and interests.
