Metro West Council of Government members begin to receive CARES Act funding

Since May, 18 municipalities in Kane County that are represented by Metro West Council of Government have been working in tandem with the Kane County Cares Act Allocation Committee on a funding program to receive a share of $92 million the county received from the federal CARES Act.

In the past four months, the Cares Act Allocation Committee has been meeting on a regular basis to plan and facilitate a program, administered by the State's Attorney's Office, for the distribution of the CARES Act funds among the various county departments, municipalities, unincorporated Kane, fire districts, park districts, forest preserves, nonprofits and small businesses.

At the Oct. 13 Kane County Board meeting, the partnership that Metro West was fortunate to develop with the CAAC came to culmination with the unanimous support of the committee's recommended funding for the cities, villages and towns in Kane County.

Geneva Mayor and Metro West President Kevin Burns said, "Special thanks to the CAAC and its chairman, John Hoscheit, Kane County State's Attorney Joe McMahon and his team, and Kane County Director of Community Reinvestment Scott Berger, Metro West appreciates the strong intergovernmental relationship demonstrated through the entire process."

The municipalities are currently in the process of approving an inter-governmental agreement with the county and will then begin to receive the CARES Act disbursements. They are grateful and pleased with the process and timely appropriations and stand ready to collaborate on any future COVID funding measures.
