Coroner identifies man killed in Volo workplace accident

Lake County authorities on Tuesday identified the 33-year-old Woodstock man killed last week in an industrial accident at a Volo excavation company.

Michael Rowell died as a result of multiple injuries suffered in the accident at 12:17 p.m. Friday on the 30800 block of North Route 12, according to preliminary autopsy results released by the Lake County coroner's office.

Authorities say Rowell's arm became stuck in a gravel screening machine, apparently when he attempted to free some rocks that may have been stuck in the hopper. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation into the death by the Lake County sheriff's office and coroner's office is continuing.
