Streamwood man airlifted to hospital after fall at Starved Rock

A 21-year-old Streamwood man was flown from Utica to a regional hospital Tuesday after he fell into Lone Tree Canyon at Starved Rock State Park.

Juan Perez was issued a citation for going off trail, which resulted in his falling 30 feet and then tumbling an additional 10 feet through elevated tree roots, conservation police officer Sgt. Phil Wire said.

Perez's condition was not immediately available.

Wire said Perez was alert when first-responders arrived but then lost consciousness. Conservation police learned from Perez's companion that he was climbing off trail.

Ottawa River Rescue, Utica firefighters and EMS, and the OSF LifeFlight crew responded to the scene and took him to a helicopter waiting in a field across from Grand Bear Resort at Starved Rock. Utica and Oglesby firefighters assisted.
